If you wanna do this sort of work, this isn't the worst place to start, and it can be amazing if your team is full of the sorts of people who wanna actually do their jobs, but you will likely have to deal with your fair share of egotistical, unpleasant people who're used to getting their way. About half of the people genuinely care about teaching and trying to fulfill the needs of our student body, and the other half care about optics and making sure they have control over their little domain, and unfortunately the latter are often the ones who end up either tenured or in charge of something large and important. Academia has its own particular brand of old-fashioned, and Penn State is rather bad about it. Outside of my immediate team, things get.weird. My manager is so respectful of me and my time and he's incredible at coordinating everyone, my coworkers are amazing and smart and I love working with them to solve problems, and the work is wonderful because I get to help people learn and grow from the front row. My current team is probably the best team I've ever been on. The most enjoyable part has to be receiving my Master's Degree for Theatre and Performance. There was a lot of passion and dedication for the craft and work we were doing. The workplace was vibrant and a bit loud at times considering all the students and just theatre folk in general. For instance, one of my professors was from London England. It was a truly rigorous program but very fulfilling.Īs far the management team, they were high class well renowned people from around the world. Sprinkled on top of all this I had to perform in many Theatre productions, as was the requirements of the job. The job really called for a flexible personality seeing as how theatre is such an abstract subject now days, I had to adapt to each student. This meant I had to create a full semester syllabus, reading assignments and various group orientated activities for my students. During the afternoon or early mornings, depending on the semester and how classes were scheduled, I would teach undergraduate students the basics of Theatre. A typical day consisted of class in the morning, five days a week, 11to 12 hours a day. First off it was a complete dream to be able to get paid to act and teach at a top tier University. My time at Penn State as a student and assistant teacher was truly amazing.
